[ERA : 80s / Post-Punk ] Deluxe 2CD, presenting for the first time, the seminal early work of cult '80s Australian group THE SACRED COWBOYS. Includes their 'NOTHING GROWS IN TEXAS'/'IS NOTHING SACRED?' 7" single, their original White Records debut mini-album, the indie chart-topping 'BANGKOK' single, the popular posthumous 'WE LOVE YOU' album, and as a bonus, a KILLER live set from 1983 (originally broadcast on 3RRR) featuring a number of unreleased covers (including their fan fave cover of Suicide's 'Mr Ray' which has never been available before) and long-lost originals. The Sacred Cowboys gained instant notoriety when they appeared in '82, thanks to frontman Garry Gray's chainsaw-wielding antics on stage. They became one of the hottest alternative bands on the scene, and a major drawcard especially in hometown Melbourne and Sydney (where they found kindred spirits like the Scientists). Something of a post-punk supergroup (with members drawn from the original line-up of the Models and the Negatives), the Cowboys played a wild, dangerous and completely unique brand of rock'n'roll inspired by the artists whose material they cover here, including SUICIDE, ALAN VEGA, CAPTAIN BEEFHEART, CRAMPS, VELVET UNDERGROUND, CREEDENCE and ALEX CHILTON. /
